About

Hi! I’m Emily, a Chicago-based front-end designer currently professionally designing and CSS-ing custom, award-winning eLearning courses and portals. I've learned about a lot of cool things while creating training, from quartz watches to CPR!

Growing up, my mom designed and created jewelry and my dad owned a small but successful gift store chain. This double-act of creativity and business savvy greatly impacted my outlook and interests, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to combine them in some way professionally. Lo and behold, I discovered the magical world of front-end design. The rest is history.

Principles

Adaptability

I thrive on change because it pushes me to grow. It began in my first design job, where I immediately learned HTML and CSS. Over the years, I’ve adopted new skills, shifted to a management position, transitioned from a project-based to a product-based company, and embraced a company acquisition.

Leadership

I strive to be fair, helpful, and confident in my design and management choices. I believe being a good manager means being a good person, whether it’s providing in-the-moment coaching to someone I can see is struggling, or celebrating success by giving credit where credit is due.

Organization

I thrive on to-do lists, keeping project teams updated, maintaining file structures, and forever (and forever) simplifying CSS. I believe strong organization is fundamental to strong communication and reliability.

Interests

Video Games

I love games, ranging from Animal Crossing to World of Warcraft—and also take inspiration from their design and UI choices.

Baking

Baking lets you create something with your hands, decorate it, and (most important by far) eat it afterwards! My specialty is the French macaron (not to be confused with the non-French macaroon, which is, confusingly, a different thing).

Calligraphy

This is my non-digital art form of choice (could you tell by my logo?). There’s something calming about doodling random words in elegant script.
